Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Sacramento - Robby Hammock's sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning plated Alberto Callaspo and gave the Sidewinders a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish in a win over the Sacramento Rivercats on Tuesday night. The win is Tucson's 87th of the season, tying the Tucson franchise record.

Callaspo singled leading off the ninth and was sacrificed to second by Jon Weber. An intentional walk to Scott Hairston put runners at first and second and a walk to Chris Carter loaded the bases for Hammock who delivered a line drive sacrifice fly to right. Callaspo scored just before Hairston was tagged out trying to advance to third.

Greg Aquino earned the win for Tucson in his second rehab appearance. Aquino worked two scoreless innings and struck out four to improve his Triple-A record to 2-0 on the season.

Doug Slaten worked a scoreless ninth for his second save. His ERA with the Sidewinders is now 0.45.

The Sidewinders took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Hairston's double to left scored Callaspo. Sacramento tied the game in the third on Doug Clark's solo home run to right.

Neither starting pitcher was involved in the decision although both pitched well. Edgar Gonzalez tossed six innings of one run ball for Tucson and Jason Windsor allowed just one run on seven hits in his six innings.

Callaspo finished 4-5 and scored both Sidewinders runs. Hairston went 3-4 with an RBI and Juan Brito went 2-4.

Two previous Tucson teams have notched 87 wins in a season. In 1980, Tucson went 87-59 and in 1995, Tucson finished 87-56.

The Sidewinders and Rivercats play game three of their series on Wednesday night at Raley Field. Right-hander Micah Owings (9-0 3.86) will start for Tucson against right-hander Ben Fritz (6-4 4.76) for Sacramento. First pitch is at 7:05. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:50.
