Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Grant Green continued his streak of multi-hit games, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, but the River Cats fell 5-3 in their series finale with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Tuesday afternoon at Raley Field.
Ryan Wheeler got the Sky Sox offense rolling in the first inning, driving home Charlie Blackmon on a line-drive RBI hit to right. After Colorado Springs starter Drew Carpenter held the Cats scoreless until the fourth inning, Grant Green evened things up at one with a solo homer to left. Colorado Springs wasted no time in reclaiming the lead, getting three runs in the fifth inning off of a two-run blast from Kent Matthes and a Charlie Culberson drop-in single.
The River Cats climbed to back to within one in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on an RBI single from Jemile Weeks-his 21st of the year-and a double from Green. Matthes struck once again for the Sky Sox, homering off of Hideki Okajima in the eighth inning to double the Colorado Springs lead, and seal the win.
Green extended his multi-hit game streak to four where he is hitting .421 in his last 10 games with one home run and three RBIs. The infielder has recorded multiple hits in his last four games, and six of his last eight outings. The loss snapped Sacramento's four-game win streak in day contests dating back to May 29.
Sacramento starter Travis Banwart suffered his fourth loss for the Cats, giving up four runs through 4.1 innings of work in a game that was delayed one hour and 16 minutes due to rain. Carpenter earned the win for the Sky Sox, holding the Cats to three runs and six hits in 5.0 innings on the hill.
The River Cats are off tomorrow for the first time since June 5, resuming action on Miller Lite Thirsty Thursday against the Reno Aces. Sonny Gray (7-5, 2.85 ERA) will get the nod for the Cats, with Aces right-hander Nate Adcock (1-0, 10.00 ERA) taking the ball for Reno.
