TACOMA, Wash. - Carlos Peguero went 4-for-4 as the Tacoma Rainiers collected 15 hits and rolled past the Fresno Grizzlies 14-4 at Cheney Stadium on Monday.
The Rainiers jumped out to an insurmountable 7-0 lead through the first three innings of action. Dustin Ackley drove in Abraham Almonte from third on ground out, putting Tacoma up 1-0 in the first. Peguero added another run later in the frame with a sacrifice fly that plated Brad Miller.
Infielder Nate Tenbrink headlined a three-hit, five run inning for the Rainiers in the third. Rich Poythress drew a bases-loaded walk before Tenbrink lined a two-out three-run double to center field. Brandon Bantz rounded out the inning with an RBI single that scored Tenbrink.
Carlos Peguero's four-hit night fronted a Rainiers lineup that turned in its highest run total at Cheney Stadium this season. The outfielder collected two doubles, a pair of singles and two RBI. Nate Tenbrink led the club with a season-high four RBI.
Brad Miller ended the night 2-for-4 with two doubles to extend his team-leading hitting to 20 games. The shortstop is batting .386 (32x83) with 10 extra-base hits and 26 RBI since May 29.
Starter Brandon Maurer (2-1) earned the win after holding the Grizzlies to four runs on five hits over 5.2 innings. The right-hander struck out a season-high nine batters and issued two walks in his fifth start with Tacoma.
Relievers Hector Noesi (1.1) and Lucas Luetge (2.0) combined to strikeout four batters over 3.1 innings of work out of the bullpen.
The Rainiers (46-33) look to seal a series win when the team hosts the final game of a four-game series with Fresno (36-42) at 7 p.m. tomorrow, June 25. Mariners top pitching prospect Taijuan Walker (0-0, -.--) is expected to make his Triple-A debut in a start against Grizzlies right-hander Austin Fleet (0-1, 4.43).
