Iowa Cubs News Release
Memphis, TN - Three Memphis Redbirds (39-41) pitchers combined to face the minimum and allow one hit in a 7-0 victory over the Iowa Cubs (39-41) at Auto Zone Park tonight. The Cubs and Redbirds are once again tied for first place in the American Northern DIvision after Memphis won three of four in this series.
The Cubs' lone hit came on a one-out single by Jae-Hoon Ha in the top of the first inning. With two outs, Ha was picked off and caught stealing in a rundown between first and second base to end the inning. The Redbirds retired the final 25 batters in a row to record their second shutout of the series and their third against the Cubs this season. Redbirds' starter Tyler Lyons (3-1) worked the first seven innings and struck out four. Mitchell Boggs and Deryk Hooker each pitched a perfect inning to finish the game.
Cubs' starter Yoanner Negrin (2-3) didn't survive the first as the Redbirds sent 11 men to the plate and scored six runs on four hits, two walks, an error, and a hit batsman. Kolten Wong had an RBI single to open the scoring, Chad Huffman doubled with the bases loaded to drive in two, and Adron Chambers capped the rally with a two-run single for the key hits. Chambers also tripled to start the game.
Casey Coleman came in to get the final out of the first inning and worked through 4.1 innings in relief. Coleman allowed a solo homer to Jamie Romak leading off the bottom of the fifth for the Redbirds' final run. Eduardo Sanchez struck out two in two scoreless innings and Marcus Hatley finished the bottom of the eighth. The Cubs' bullpen has allowed a total of four runs in 18.2 innings over the last 12 games.
The Cubs are off tomorrow and will be back in action on Thursday night to open a four game series against the Omaha Storm Chasers at 7:05 at Werner Park. RH Guillermo Moscoso (3-5, 4.99) will start for the Cubs against RH Yordano Ventura (2-1, 5.49) for the Storm Chasers. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940, and streamed at iowacubs.com, with the pre-game show starting at 6:45.
