Tucson Padres News Release
The Padres moved into a first place tie in the Southern Division Tuesday after Tucson defeated the Reno Aces 6-5 at Aces Ballpark. Tucson took the series three games to one over Reno.
Jonathan Galvez gave the Padres a 2-0 advantage in the top of the second with a two-run double to center. Jaff Decker tacked on a run in the third with his sixth home run of the season. Dean Anna singled up the middle later that inning to extend his hitting streak to 13 games, the longest for any Padre this season. Alfredo Marte brought around the first run for Reno in the fourth with an RBI double off the center field fence. Josh Wilson followed with a two-run single to tie the score at 3-3.
Rene Rivera put the Padres back in front in the sixth with a two-out double to right bringing home Galvez from first. Tucson scored two more runs in the top of the seventh on Anna's sacrifice fly and Mike Wilson's RBI single. The Aces responded in the bottom of the seventh with two runs of their own to cut the Padres lead to one.
Reliever Ryan Kelly (1-0) earned his first win of the season, while Miles Mikolas recorded his 15th save. Padres starter Anthony Bass exited the game with an apparent injury two outs into the fourth. Charles Brewer (3-7) surrendered four runs on six hits and was charged with the loss. Brewer pitched five innings after J.J. Putz threw a scoreless top of the first in a rehab start.
The Padres do not play Wednesday.
