Chicago Calls Up Brian Bogusevic From Iowa

Memphis, TN - The Chicago Cubs selected the contract of OF Brian Bogusevic from Iowa today and designated RHP Carlos Marmol for assignment. The organization also announced that the suspension of INF Ian Stewart was settled and upheld, and the Cubs have granted him his unconditional release.

Bogusevic batted .319 (83-for-260) with 10 home runs and 32 RBI in 78 games with Iowa this season. He led the team with 14 doubles, 50 runs scored, 16 stolen bases, a .418 on-base percentage, a .512 slugging percentage, and a .929 OPS on the year. He is tied for the league lead in games played and has been among the league leaders in batting and on-base percentage for most of the season. The suburban Chicago native has played all three outfield spots plus four games at first base this season and leads the team with six outfield assists.

Stewart batted .168 (19-for-113) with five home runs and 20 RBI in 40 game with Iowa. The first 13 games were part of a Major League rehab assignment. Stewart set career-highs with three homers and eight RBI in a game on June 8 against Round Rock. The eight RBI tied the Iowa franchise record for RBI in a game set by Tom Egan on July 13, 1973.
