Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Jemile Weeks reached base three times-scoring twice-but Sacramento couldn't muster enough offense to overcome the visiting Tacoma Rainiers, losing by a score of 6-4 on a Friday night that saw the River Cats welcome their 10 millionth fan to Raley Field.
Sacramento drew first blood when Weeks-after leading off the bottom of the frame with a walk-advanced to second on a Grant Green single to right-center, coming around to score on a botched pickoff attempt from Tacoma starting pitcher Brandon Maurer in the bottom of the first.
Tacoma second baseman Brad Miller hooked a game-tying home run around the right-field foul pole to knot the game at one in the top of the third. After Sacramento retook the lead in the fourth when Weeks singled-home Hiro Nakajima, the Rainiers pulled ahead for the final time with two runs in the fifth, and three in the sixth. The River Cats put a rally together in the bottom of the seventh-coming away with two runs-but it wasn't enough as they ultimately lost by a score of 6-4.
Weeks finished 1-for-3 with two runs, an RBI, and two walks. Grant Green went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI, while Daric Barton reached three times, going 1-for-2 with two free passes. Cats starter Justin Thomas (3-5) suffered the loss, yielding three runs, six hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in five innings.
The win was credited to Maurer (1-1), who limited the River Cats to two runs-one earned-on four hits and three walks in five innings of work. Brian Moran picked up his third save with 0.2 perfect innings of relief. Dustin Ackley-starting in center field and batting third-went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Miller finished 1-for-4 with two runs, an RBI and his fourth home run of the season.
The series continues on a Sutter Health Fireworks Saturday that is also Star Wars Night at Raley Field when River Cats righty Travis Banwart (3-2, 4.62 ERA) starts opposite Rainiers right-hander Hector Noesi (1-0, 7.36 ERA) at 7:05 p.m.
