Fresno Grizzlies News Release

Fresno, Calif. - Three home runs by the Salt Lake Bees faulted the Fresno Grizzlies in a 7-5 loss on Friday at Chukchansi Park. A third-inning grand slam by Luis Jimenez highlighted the Bees offensive barrage on Fresno.

The Grizzlies seized a 2-0 lead in the first inning with back-to-back RBIs by Brett Pill and Roger Kieschnick.

In the top of the second, though, Roberto Lopez responded for Salt Lake with a two-out solo home run to the left field bleachers. Jimenez's grand slam in the third quickly erased the Grizzlies' advantage by turning it into a 5-2 Bees lead.

The Grizzlies hit a pair of home runs of their own, with Pill's two-run homer in the third inning answering Jimenez's blast to pull the Grizzlies within one, 5-4. Cole Gillespie hit a solo home run into the Chukchansi Park pool in the eighth inning that made it 7-5.

Fabio Castillo allowed two of the three Salt Lake runs in the losing decision. The right-hander allowed five runs over six innings. Austin Fleet tossed three innings of relief, surrendering a two-run home run to Kole Calhoun in the eighth that made it 7-4.

Jarrett Grube picked up the win for Salt Lake after he tossed five innings and allowed four runs. The right-hander struck out seven.

The Grizzlies struck out 12 times in the game. They also went 2-for-16 with runners in scoring position.

Johnny Monell went 1-for-2 with three walks. It was his second game this season in which he has drawn three walks.

Gary Brown had a single in his two at-bats while also tallying two stolen bases. He did leave the game early, however, due to a left leg contusion suffered when he fouled a ball off himself.

Roger Kieschnick tripled in the fifth inning, giving him eight this season. The eight triples match his career-high set in 2009 with San Jose.

The Grizzlies and Bees will meet for game two of the series on Saturday at 7:05 pm. Left-hander Mike Kickham will face Salt Lake's Barry Enright.
