Round Rock Express News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - A night after the Round Rock Express (38-32) offense unleashed on the Oklahoma City Redhawks (36-30), the Redhawks answered back and took game two of the series 6-4 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The Redhawks got to Express starter Ryan Feierabend early, putting up two runs in the first inning. With two outs, Feierabend uncorked a wild pitch and gave up a walk to Redhawks' Justin Maxwell to put runners on first and second. Back-to-back singles plated both runners, giving Oklahoma City a 2-0 lead.
The Express had a chance to get on the board in the third when center fielder Engel Beltre hit a leadoff double. He got out in the next at-bat on a fielder's choice, but it allowed Greg Miclat to reach second. With Aaron Cunningham at the plate, Miclat was caught stealing third for the second out of the inning. Cunningham grounded out to end the inning.
Oklahoma City tacked on two more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Feierabend gave up a leadoff home run to Brett Wallace on a 0-1 pitch. A single and a double put runners on second and third with no outs. Two batters later, Jose Martinez flies into a sacrifice double play, plating one more run before ending the inning.
Feierbend gave up another long ball in the fourth, a two run shot, to make it 6-0 Redhawks.
The Express answered back in the top of the fifth with a two-run bomb of their own. Jim Adduci drew a walk to bring up Jared Hoying. Hoying unleashed a blast over the right field wall on the first pitch he saw from Redhawks starter Jarred Cosart. The next three Express batters grounded out, ending the inning.
Feierbend allowed just one hit in the fifth before being replaced by RHP Yoshinori Tateyama to start the sixth. Feierabend went 6.0 innings and was tagged with all six Redhawks' runs, resulting in his fourth loss of the season. He gave up nine hits, but allowed just one walk and struck out four.
The Express cut the Redhawks lead by one in the top of the eighth. Miclat hit a leadoff double and scored two batters later when Yangervis Solarte hit a sac fly.
After working two hitless innings, Tateyama was replaced by LHP Nate Robertson. Robertson's only blemish on the night was a one out walk which he rectified by picking off the runner for the final out of the inning.
Round Rock attempted a comeback in the top of the ninth. Robinson Chirinos hit a one-out solo home run to make it 6-4. Adduci drew a walk in the next at-bat and advanced to second on a single by Hoying. The Redhawks went to their bullpen for the third time, brining in RH Josh Zeid. Zeid forced Beltre to line out and sent Miclat down swinging to end the game, giving Oklahoma City the win.
Redhawk starter Jarred Cosart picked up the win, improving to 6-3. He worked 6.0 innings, giving up two runs on four hits.
The Express and Redhawks play game three of four tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Round Rock will send LHP Brad Mills (6-1, 2.88 ERA) to toe the rubber against Oklahoma City's RHP Asher Wojciechowski (3-2, 3.22 ERA). The E-Train returns to Dell Diamond for a four-game set against the Memphis Redbirds June 18-21. For more information on the Express, visit www.RoundRockExpress.com or call (512) 255-2255.
