Spruill Leads Aces to Shutout Win
June 15, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
TUCSON, Ariz.-For his second-straight start, Reno starter Zeke Spruill lead the Aces to a shutout victory, this time a 5-0 win over the Tucson Padres at Kino Stadium on Saturday night.
Spruill allowed just four hits and two walks, while striking out four, through 8.0 stellar innings of work. Padres catcher Rene Rivera, who went 3-for-3 against Spruill, and third baseman Dean Anna were the lone Tucson batters who managed a hit off the righty in the game.
The Padres had runners at second and third with two outs in the ninth, but Evan Marshall threw a scoreless frame to preserve the shutout.
Reno first baseman Mike Jacobs fell just a triple short of the cycle, homering for the third-straight game. Chris Owings went 2-for-5 to extend his Pacific Coast League-best road hitting streak to 19 games, dating back to April 23.
In his first game back from a three-and-a-half week stint on the disabled list, outfielder Alfredo Marte went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
The series continues on Sunday night at Kino Stadium. RHP Nate Adcock (3-4, 7.09 ERA) will make his debut for Reno, while the Padres will counter with LHP Robbie Erlin (5-1, 3.75 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
The Aces return home for another eight game homestand against the Fresno Grizzlies and Tucson Padres beginning Tuesday. Tickets are on sale for the upcoming homestand, and all Aces home games, at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
