Reno wins over Tucson

Zeke Spruill pitched eight shutout innings to lead the Reno Aces to a 5-0 win over the Tucson Padres Saturday at Kino Stadium.

Tony Campana broke a scoreless tie in the fifth by sending a single up the middle to bring home Tuffy Gosewisch from second. After an errant pickoff throw advanced Campana to third, Chris Owings drove him in with an RBI single. Alfredo Marte's two-out RBI single in the sixth extended the Aces lead to 3-0.

Aaron Hill, who was making his first rehab start with Reno, delivered an RBI single in the seventh for the Aces fourth run of the night. The final run came in the eighth on Mike Jacobs solo home run to right. Jacobs has homered in three-straight games and has four home runs on the year.

Spruill (3-3) earned the win after scattering four hits, walking two and striking out four in eight innings. The righthander is on a 17-inning scoreless streak after pitching a complete-game shutout in his previous start. Padres starter Brandon Kloess (2-2) lost his second game of the season after yielding six hits and two earned runs. Kloess tied his career high in strikeouts by punching out eight batters. Tucson catcher Rene Rivera was 3-for-4 in the loss.
