EL PASO, Texas - The River Cats scored seven runs on 11 hits and two walks on Wednesday night at Southwest University Park, but the El Paso Chihuahuas more than doubled that total, beating Sacramento 16-7.

The Chihuahuas scored early and often in this one, plating four in the first, one in the second, and three in the third. Sacramento scored once in each of the second, third, and fourth innings, highlighted by run-scoring singles in the third and fourth by Nick Buss and Jake Elmore, respectively. After a scoreless fifth inning, El Paso busted the game open with a six-run sixth inning that saw 10 hitters come to the plate.

Sacramento went down swinging, however, scoring three runs in the eighth inning. Buss and Jose Martinez led off the frame with singles before Andy Parrino grounded out to second, moving the runners over. Buss came around to score on a Shane Peterson groundout that moved Martinez to third, before Josh Whitaker walked. Elmore then singled-home Martinez before Anthony Aliotti singled, bringing home Whitaker.

Elmore finished 3-for-4 with two RBI, Peterson went 2-for-4 with a run, an RBI, and a double, and Whitaker finished 2-for-3 with two runs, a walk, and a double of his own. Right-handed starter Matt Buschmann suffered the loss, giving up 10 runs-all earned-on 11 hits and three walks with six strikeouts in 5.1 innings.

Former big league outfielder Jason Lane picked up the win, giving up four runs-two earned-on seven hits with four strikeouts. Alex Castellanos went 4-for-5 with six RBI, while Rymer Liriano went 3-for-4 with four runs and three RBI in his Triple-A debut. A rehabbing Jedd Gyorko went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Lane-hitting for himself-went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Left-hander Tommy Milone (0-0, 7.00 ERA) will take the mound for the River Cats as his squad looks to win the series, facing El Paso righty Billy Buckner (4-4, 5.16 ERA) at 6:05 p.m. on Thursday night at Southwest University Park.

The River Cats return to Raley Field on July 29 when the team opens an eight-game set that features four games against the Isotopes and the Las Vegas 51s.
