Jarrett Grube pitched six shut-out innings and Salt Lake tallied a season-high 18 hits on the way to a 12-3 victory over the Reno Aces Wednesday night at Smith's Ballpark. Grube collected his seventh quality start of 2014 while allowing just five hits and striking out five to collect the win. Michael Kohn and Kyler Newby each contributed a scoreless inning of work before Dustin Richardson gave up three runs in two-thirds innings pitched. Fernando Nieve toed the rubber for the final out of the night.

"Part of it is their consistancy and getting themselves into better counts," said Salt Lake manager Keith Johnson about the Bees starting pitching since the All-Star break. "They've been putting the hitters at more of a defensive type approach at the plate. The second part of that is we're starting to make the routine defensive plays."

The Bees made their first strike in the second when Ian Stewart flied out to right field to score Tommy Field from third base. Luis Jimenez helped the home team pad their lead in the fifth with a two-run double while John Hester and Roberto Lopez each contributed an RBI in the sixth. The Bees brought 12 batters to the plate in the eighth, knocking seven hits and taking two walks in the inning to bring seven runs across the plate. The Aces put together a three-run mini-rally in the top of the nine, but were unable to make up the deficit.
