Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

LAST NIGHT'S LOSS: The Chasers jumped ahead 3-0 in the second, but only had four baserunners in the final seven innings (only one runner in to scoring position) in a 5-3 loss. It was only the second game decided by two runs or less in the 11 meetings between the two teams.

HIT MERRIFIELD: Whit Merrifield currently has a 20-game on-base streak (actually a 21-game streak counting his two hits in the July 12 suspended game), the longest such streak for Omaha this season. During the streak he is batting .326 (28-for-86) with a .389 OBP. Merrifield has reached base in 36 of his 39 games with an at-bat since joining the Chasers on June 7, and has a PCL-leading 59 hits in that span (61 hits counting July 12), as well as a league-leading 17 doubles.

A-A-RON: Aaron Brooks has a team-leading seven wins, but did not have a win during the first month of the season, and since his May 7 start he is tied for the most wins in the league at seven (with five other pitchers). The only pitcher with a better record than his 7-1 mark and at least seven wins is Logan Verrett of Las Vegas at 7-0. Omaha is 12-3 in Brooks' 15 starts.

TO ALL FIELDS: Matt Fields is one of four players with at least seven homers in July (which also includes Francisco Pena) and one of four players with at least 20 RBI at 21 (trails Jesus Montero of Tacoma at 29 RBI and Wilmer Flores of Las Vegas at 28 RBI).

Fields has hit 16 of his 19 homers since May 18 (54 games), which leads the league during that time frame (he had just three homers in his first 38 games this season) and has 45 of his 62 RBI in that span as well.

NOT VERY SNEAKY: Omaha still sits atop the Pacific Coast League with 106 steals, but have no steals in the last four games (and only one steal in the last seven games). The drought ties their season high for games without a steal (May 9-12 and May 29-June 1 the others).

HAPPY ENDINGS: Omaha has a record of 17-9 in series finales this season, and have won all five series finales in July. The Chasers have won nine of the 13 road series finales in 2014.

BRING BACK THE MAGIC: Paulo Orlando had two hits in six games since the All-Star Break before his two hit day. Orlando is one three players in the PCL with at least 113 hits (which is 23 shy of his career high) and has not been below .300 outside the first four games of 2014.

NOT LIKE LAST YEAR: Omaha gave up their 103rd homer of the season last night, which matches their 103 homers they allowed in all of 2013 (fewest in the Pacific Coast League last year).

GETTING C.C.-ED: Christian Colon has a hit in 23 of his last 25 games with Omaha (including two hits on July 12) and during that span dating to June 10 he is batting .382 (39-for-102).
