Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

NEED TO KNOW: Both offenses were clicking on all cylinders early Wednesday evening as the Albuquerque Isotopes (49-56) erased a five-run deficit to beat the Fresno Grizzlies (51-54) in an 8-7 contest at Isotopes Park.

DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK: After a 1-2-3 top of the first, the Grizzlies batted around and exploded for five runs in the top of the second. They didn't take the wind out of Albuquerque's sails though, as the Isotopes would plate a pair of runs in the home half of the second with a two-run double from Carlos Triunfel. Joc Pederson then blasted a solo home run leading off the third to cut it to 5-3. After Fresno plated a run in the top of the fourth, Albuquerque came through with its big inning. Mike Baxter led off the inning with a single but back-to-back strikeouts were threatening to end the frame. Singles by starting pitcher Drew Carpenter and Chone Figgins kept the rally going. A hit-by-pitch and walk set up Brock Peterson's bases-clearing three-RBI double to put the Isotopes on top 8-6.

20/20 VISION: With his third inning solo home run, outfielder Joc Pederson became the first Dodgers Minor Leaguer with 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in the same season since Antonio Perez in 2004, who finished with 22 home runs and 22 steals. Pederson is the first Isotope to accomplish the feat and the first player in the Pacific Coast League since Terry Evans in 2009 with Salt Lake. Pederson also stole a base in the game and finished 1-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored, an RBI and two walks. He currently has 20 home runs and 25 stolen bases.

DON'T CONFUSE THEM: While Joc Pederson continued his strong season, first baseman Brock Peterson has only been with Albuquerque for 18 games but has provided some pop for the Topes. Wednesday night, he went 1-for-4 with three RBI, a double and a walk. Since joining the Isotopes, Peterson in now batting .400 (26-for-65) with eight doubles, four home runs, 17 RBI and 11 walks.

KEEPING IT CLOSE: Wednesday night's one-run decision was the eighth game out of 15 between the Isotopes and Grizzlies decided by two runs or fewer this season and third-straight one-run decision between the two clubs. Overall this season, Albuquerque is now 20-18 in one-run games and 9-10 in two-run affairs.

ON DECK: The Isotopes will play the finale of their four-game series against the Grizzlies Thursday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. Right-hander Red Patterson (3-7, 5.40 ERA) will take the hill for Albuquerque, while Fresno will go with their third lefty of the series, Mike Kickham (7-5, 3.53 ERA).

IN THE HOLE: After their four-game set against the Grizzlies, the Topes will head out for a eight-game road trip to play the Reno Aces and the Sacramento River Cats.
