Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

A four-run sixth inning was the difference maker Wednesday night as the Nashville Sounds (44-59) defeated the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (55-50), 5-2.

The Sounds took an early 1-0 lead in the third inning when Matt Clark hit an RBI single up the middle and was able to hold the lead until the sixth inning making it a pitcher's duel between RHP Ariel Pena (7-6) and RHP Mike McClendon (2-2) early on.

Pena went five shutout innings before the Sky Sox got on the board and took a 2-1 lead in the sixth thanks to back-to-back RB-singles from Kyle Parker and Matt McBride.

In his final frame of work, however, McClendon ended up giving Nashville back the lead by allowing an RBI double and single, before giving up a pinch-hit, two-run homer to Pete Orr for his fourth home run of the season to end the scoring and giving the Sounds enough to pick up the win.

McClendon finished the game, allowing five runs to score on 11 hits in 5.2 innings of work, while striking out four with no walks. For Nashville, Pena finished six innings, allowing just two runs on six hits with six strikeouts.

Both bullpens threw scoreless outings, led by Sky Sox' RHP Rob Scahill, who tossed two and a third perfect innings with two strikeouts. LHP Brent Leach tossed two scoreless innings of his own, while RHP Rob Wooten picked up his fifth save of the season with a shutout ninth inning.

McBride and Cristhian Adames each collected two hits for the Sky Sox, while Caleb Gindl picked up three hits for Nashville.

The series finale between these two teams will be at 6:05 p.m. (MT) Thursday when LHP Pedro Hernandez (6-5, 6.05 ERA) takes on Nashville's RHP Mike Fiers (7-5, 2.68 ERA).
