Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers purchased the contract of RHP Nate Adcock from the Round Rock Express Thursday morning. Adcock replaced RHP Joakim Soria, who was traded to Detroit late Wednesday evening, on Texas's active roster and was in uniform for Thursday's series finale with the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.
Adcock began the season on the disabled list before joining the Express at the beginning of June. In 13 relief appearances with Round Rock, the right-hander went 1-0-1 with a 2.76 ERA (5 ER/16.1 IP) and 14 strikeouts. He allowed runs in just three of his outings and limited batters to a.193 average against.
Adcock made his major league debut with the Kansas City Royals on Opening Day 2011 and went on to appear in 36 games (five starts) for the Royals between the 2011 and 2012 seasons. In his big league career, Adcock is 1-4 with a 3.79 ERA (40 ER/95.0 IP) and 58 strikeouts.
The 26-year old native of Elizabethtown, Kentucky was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the fifth round of the 2006 first-year player draft out of North Hardin High School. After spending time in the Seattle, Pittsburgh, Kansas City and Arizona organizations, Adcock signed a minor league contract with the Rangers on December 5, 2013.
As a corresponding move, LHP Edwar Cabrera has been transferred from Double-A Frisco. Cabrera went 4-6 with a 2.99 ERA (36 ER/108.1 IP) and 84 strikeouts in 22 appearances (17 starts) with the RoughRiders to earn his second Texas League Mid-Season All-Star nod in the last three years, the first coming while with the Tulsa Drillers.
Cabrera, 26, was a heralded prospect of the Colorado Rockies prior to suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in 2013, causing him to miss the entire season. He was claimed off waivers from the Rockies on October 16, 2013.
