Reno Aces News Release
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. - Andy Marte continued his dominance of Salt Lake, delivering a bases-loaded, ground-rule double in the seventh inning to give the Reno Aces a 4-3 road win Thursday night.
Marte finished the season series batting .438 (28-for-64) against his former team, with 5 doubles, 3 home runs, 15 RBIs, and 16 runs scored in 16 games.
The win also gave Reno the season series win over Salt Lake for the fourth-straight year. The Aces took nine of the 16 games between the clubs this year.
Garrett Weber led off the game with a bang for the Aces. The infielder extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a leadoff home run to right field. It was the first Aces leadoff homer since Adam Eaton on July 12, 2012 against Salt Lake.
Marte scored later in the inning on a Jordan Pacheco two-out single up the middle to make it 2-0.
But Salt Lake didn't take long to respond.
In the bottom half of the inning, former Aces outfielder Tony Campana led off with a double, and scored on a Brennan Boesch single. Boesch then came around to score on John Buck's double in the next at-bat.
The score remained 2-2 until the fifth inning, when Salt Lake loaded the bases with one out against Aces starter Mark Serrano. Jess Todd came in to try to work out of the jam, but gave up a sacrifice fly to the first batter he faced. Campana was then picked off at third for the final out, and the score was 3-2.
Reno rallied in the seventh inning, loading the bases on three walks. Marte then delivered his ground-rule double on the first pitch he saw, giving the Aces the 4-3 lead.
The Aces' bullpen shut the door from there, tossing the final three innings scoreless. Jake Barrett worked the ninth inning for his fifth save of the season.
Reno returns home tomorrow to open a four-game series with the Albuquerque Isotopes. The Aces lead the season series, 7-5, and have won both road series this season. Bo Schultz (8-6, 5.30) will get the start for the Aces, and the "ËTopes will counter with Carlos Frias (7-4, 4.71). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Only 17 home games remain this season for the Aces, and single-game tickets for those contests are on sale now. For more information, or to purchase an Aces ticket plan, call (775) 334-4700.
