Today's Game: The RedHawks seek a series split when they close out their four-game set against the Round Rock Express at 7:05 p.m. at Chicaksaw Bricktown Ballpark. Oklahoma City is trying to win back-to-back games for the first time since the All-Star Break.
Last Game: Gregorio Petit and Matt Duffy each drove in four runs for the RedHawks in a 12-8 win against Round Rock Wednesday in Bricktown. The RedHawks scored four runs in three different innings in the back-and-forth game. Carlos Peña led off the second with a solo homer and Michael Choice hit a two-run single in the third to put the Express in front, 3-0. OKC's first four-run inning occurred in the third after they had none on and two out. Down 3-1, Petit smashed a three-run homer to put the RedHawks in front, Round Rock took a 6-4 lead in the fourth with three runs. In the fifth, Petit hit a RBI groundout and Preston Tucker followed with a RBI single, before Duffy hit a two-run homer to put the RedHawks back in the lead, 8-6. A two-out RBI single by Tomas Telis cut the lead to one in the sixth. The RedHawks produced one more big rally in the eighth. Tucker drew a bases-loaded walk before Duffy hit a two-run single and Carlos Perez added a RBI single to put the RedHawks ahead, 12-7. Round Rock tallied a run in the top of the ninth on a Ryan Rua RBI single. RedHawks reliever Jorge De Leon (3-2) got the win and Jason Stoffel notched his ninth save.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Alex White (1-3) makes his third start of the season for OKC...His first 15 appearances were all out of the bullpen, but he transitioned to starting role beginning July 9...He suffered a loss in his last outing during game one of last Friday's doubleheader against Nashville, allowing six runs on five hits over a season-high 3.1 innings. He tied a season high with three strikeouts...White continues to rebound after spending the entire 2013 season on the Disabled List. He suffered a right elbow strain during his last start of 2013 Spring Training and underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2013. Prior to the injury, the Astros announced he would open the season in the starting rotation...White came to the Astros from Colorado as part of a trade for reliever Wilton Lopez Dec. 4, 2012...He was selected by Cleveland with the 15th overall pick of the 2009 draft from the University of North Carolina. He was traded to Colorado on July 31, 2011 as part of a package for Ubaldo Jimenez...Tonight is his first career appearance against Round Rock...Asher Wojciechowski is scheduled to follow White as a piggyback starter.
Against the Express: 2014: 5-6 2013: 8-8 All-time: 81-73 In OKC: 40-39
Last night the RedHawks snapped a four-game losing streak against the Express...The teams have combined for 45 runs through the first three games of the current series, nearly tripling their run total from their previous series in which they combined for just 17 runs over four games, April 28-May 1. The RedHawks won the first two games before the Express took the final two...The teams also split their season-opening series in Round Rock April 3-6...Round Rock has a slight 51-50 edge in runs scored...After batting .205 against the RedHawks over the first eight meetings, the Express is hitting .339 this series (38x112)...The RedHawks have struck out at least seven Express hitters in 10 of their first 11 meetings. They have 109 total strikeouts over 99.0 IP and have registered at least 10 K's six times...Round Rock has finished with a winning record in Bricktown two of the last three seasons.
Post-Break Blitz: In the seven games since the All-Star Break, the RedHawks are batting .302 (68x225) and are averaging close to seven runs per game (47 total runs). The RedHawks have scored at least six runs in five of the seven games, and they have been stellar in scoring situations, batting .338 (25x74) with runners in scoring position...On the other hand, the RedHawks have allowed 49 runs over the same span. Opponents are batting .331 (79x239), including a .451 (32x71) clip with runners in scoring position.
Four-Wheeling: Gregorio Petit and Matt Duffy racked up four RBI apiece Wednesday, tying the highest single-game RBI total by a RedHawk this season. Duffy tied a season high, as he also had four RBI April 20 with Double-A Corpus Christi. Petit set a season high, and it was his first four-RBI game since collecting five RBI July 19, 2012 with Triple-A Columbus.
Men of Steal: Jonathan Villar produced half of the RedHawks' season-high six stolen bases Wednesday. It's the ninth time in his career he's stolen at least three bases in a game, last done Aug. 3, 2013 vs. the Boston Red Sox. Ronny Torreyes notched his first two-steal game since April 25, 2012 with High-A Daytona, and Austin Wates extended his league-leading stolen base total to 28...The six steals were the most for Oklahoma City since they also stole six bases April 29, 2013 against Nashville...The RedHawks lead the league with 32 steals in July. Their 86 swipes overall this season rank fourth in the PCL.
Walking Tall: The RedHawks have drawn 39 walks over the last seven games, taking at least five free passes each game. Their 89 walks this rank second in the league this month behind Las Vegas (92) and they currently rank third overall this season (390)...Jonathan Villar has drawn 12 walks in 14 games with the RedHawks. He had just 15 walks in 71 games with the Astros.
Perez Packing Punch: RedHawks catcher Carlos Perez set a new career high by extending his current hitting streak to 11 games after going 3-for-5 with a RBI Wednesday -- his first multi-hit game during the streak. He is batting .394 (13x33) with three RBI and eight walks during the stretch. Perez has also hit safely in 14 of his last 15 games and has 19 hits during that time (.396; 19x48), raising his season average by 43 points from .220 to .263.
Don't Call it a Comeback: Last night marked the ninth time this season the RedHawks won after trailing by at least three runs.
Way of the K: Each team has struck out at least 10 times the past two games and they have combined for 47 strikeouts over the last two nights. It's the second time this month the OKC pitching staff recorded back-to-back 10+ strikeout games (July 4-5 vs. Iowa).
Time Warp: Wednesday's game lasted 3 hours, 40 minutes, marking the longest nine-inning contest of the season for the RedHawks.
