Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY. - Leonardo Rivas hit his first career Triple-A home run, but the blast wasn't enough as the Louisville Bats (52-75) lost in a slugfest to the Indianapolis Indians (65-60) 8-7 at Louisville Slugger Field on Friday night.

Much like Tuesday night, the Indians jumped out in front early, scoring five runs on four hits, highlighted by a three-run homer to take a 5-0 lead.

After the rough first inning by Carson Spiers in his Triple-A debut, Spiers settled in to face the minimum in the second in third innings, giving up just one hit while striking out two.

The Bats answered in the third inning, putting up a crooked number to cut into the deficit. After Michael De Leon was forced out at second on a fielder's choice, the next two Bats reached base to load the bases. Leonardo Rivas stepped to the plate and promptly unloaded the bases, launching his first career Triple-A home run to right field to put Louisville back within one at 5-4.

In the top of the fourth inning, Indianapolis scratched another run across on a Louisville throwing error to extend its lead to 6-4.

Louisville answered again, plating two runs in the bottom half of the fourth. De Leon and Eric Yang each reached base with two outs to keep the inning going for Isiah Gilliam who brought De Leon home with an RBI single. Yang crossed the plate on an Indians wild pitch in the next at-bat to tie the game 6-6.

The Indians continued their efforts in the top of the fifth, scoring another run to retake the lead, 7-6.

Louisville threatened, loading the bases again in the following inning. TJ Hopkins led off the frame with a double, followed by a walk and an infield single by De Leon and Yang, respectively, to load the bases for Gilliam, who drew a walk to score Hopkins and keep the bases loaded for Rivas for the second time in the game. Indianapolis managed to get out of the inning with nothing more than the single run crossing the plate as the Bats evened the score, 7-7.

Indianapolis regained the lead once again in the top of the seventh, scoring a run on a sacrifice fly after getting a man on in scoring position with a one out triple to take an 8-7 lead.

The Bats put together one final effort in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with two outs, but couldn't produce any runs as they dropped game four 8-7.

Louisville and Indianapolis will play game five of a six-game series tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm E.T. with left-handed pitcher Justin Nicolino (3-4, 5.29) taking the hill for the Bats and right-hander Osvaldo Bido (2-7, 4.79) starting for the Indians.
