Charlotte Knights News Release

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - The Charlotte Knights dropped both games in Friday's doubleheader to the Durham Bulls from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. Charlotte fell in game one by a score of 6-2 and by a score of 7-6 in game two. The Bulls now lead the series three games to one.

In the first game, the Bulls jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against Charlotte RHP Tobias Myers (1-13, 7.28). Myers, who started the game for the Knights, was saddled with the loss after he allowed two runs on two hits over two innings of work. He allowed both runs in the first inning on a Miles Mastrobuoni two-run home run. One inning later, the Bulls added another home run on a solo shot by Rene Pinto.

Down by a score of 3-0, the Knights cut the lead to just one thanks to a two-run single from D.J. Burt in the bottom of the third inning. That was all the Knights could muster, however, in game one. The Bulls added three more runs along the way to win game one of the doubleheader by a score of 6-2.

In game two, the Bulls once again got off to a strong start against the Knights. RHP J.B. Olson (1-4, 5.80) allowed six runs over the first two innings and was charged with the loss. For the second straight game, Mastrobuoni homered in the first inning to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead. One inning later, the Bulls added five runs off Olson. The inning was highlighted by a three-run home run from Xavier Edwards and the third home run of the day by Mastrobuoni.

The Knights battled back in game two and did so in the bottom of the third inning. The Knights scored four runs in the frame thanks to an RBI single from Blake Rutherford and a three-run double from Yolbert Sánchez. Charlotte scored one more run along the way on an RBI double by Xavier Fernández in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Knights will continue the series against the Durham Bulls (Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte on Saturday night with first pitch set for 5:35 p.m. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com. The game will also air live on My 12 WMYT.
