
IronPigs' Rally Falls Short

(Norfolk, VA) - The Norfolk Tides got the best of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs as they won 5-3 on Friday evening. The 'Pigs scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but it wouldn't be enough as Logan Gillaspie earned his first save of the season.
After trailing 5-0 heading into the ninth inning, the 'Pigs scored three runs against Ryan Watson. Dalton Guthrie hit an RBI double that would score Daniel Robertson. Will Toffey hit a sacrifice fly that scored Scott Kingery and Darick Hall hit an RBI double that scored Guthrie.
Jacob Nottingham hit a two-run double against Michael Plassmeyer (5-3) in the bottom of the first inning to give Norfolk a 2-0 lead. Joseph Ortiz hit an RBI double against Plassmeyer in the bottom of the third inning to give the Tides a 3-0 lead.
Plassmeyer allowed three runs (two earned) over five innings pitched. He gave up just three hits and issued two walks with five strikeouts. Norfolk scored two runs against Jack Perkins in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 5-0 lead. Kelvin Gutierrez hit a two-run single that scored Colton Cowser and Ortiz.
Michael Kelly pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief for Lehigh Valley. He gave up one walk and struck out two batters. Matt Harvey (6-1) struck out seven batters over six innings pitched. He gave up just three hits and walked four batters for Norfolk.
The IronPigs and Tides continue their series on Saturday evening at Harbor Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
