
Ritchie, Sgarbossa Recalled by Anaheim; Trio Join Gulls

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls announced today that left wing Nick Ritchie and center Michael Sgarbossa have been recalled by the Anaheim Ducks, San Diego's National Hockey League affiliate. Additionally, left wing Max Friberg and defensemen Korbinian Holzer have been reassigned to the Gulls by Anaheim. Right wing Matt Berry has also been recalled from Utah, San Diego's ECHL affiliate.
Ritchie, 19 (12/5/95), appeared in 12 games with San Diego, recording 9-3=12 points with five power play goals (PPG), 10 penalty minutes (PIM) and a +3 rating. The 6-2, 232-pound winger ranked tied for third in goals (9) and co-led the league in PPG (5) at the time of his recall. Drafted in the first round (10th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft, Ritchie made his professional debut with San Diego on Oct. 10, scoring the first goal in San Diego Gulls AHL history, also his first professional goal.
Sgarbossa, 23 (7/25/92), recorded 2-6=8 points in 12 games with the Gulls this season. A native of Campbellville, Ontario, Sgarbossa co-led the Gulls in plus/minus with a +4 rating in the first 12 games of the season. Acquired by Anaheim in a trade with Colorado for Mat Clark on Mar 2, 2015, Sgarbossa appeared in nine NHL games with the Avalanche, collecting 0-1=1 point with 14 PIM.
Friberg, 22 (11/20/92), was originally recalled by Anaheim on Nov. 3. The 5-11, 200-pound left wing appeared in five games with the Ducks, going scoreless with two PIM. The Skovde, Sweden native appeared in seven games with San Diego prior to his recall, recording 3-2=5 points with a +2 rating.
Holzer, 27 (2/16/88), was recalled by Anaheim on Oct. 17 and appeared in seven games with the club. The 6-3, 206-pound defenseman collected 0-1=1 point, his first point in an Anaheim uniform. A native of Munich, Germany, Holzer appeared in two games with the Gulls prior to his recall, going scoreless.
Berry, 23 (8/18/92), has yet to appear with San Diego this season. Berry has recorded 7-6=13 points in 12 games with Utah.
