Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis made a career-high 47 saves as the Syracuse Crunch defeated the Utica Comets, 2-1, tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
Joel Vermin netted his second goal in as many nights as the Crunch moved to 7-4-0-1. The victory also evens the Galaxy Cup standings, 1-1, in the 10-game season series.
The Crunch struck on one of five power play opportunities. The penalty kill unit was successful in stopping all four Comets man-advantages.
After a scoreless first period, Vermin opened scoring with 9:15 remaining in the second. Nikita Nesterov fired a shot from the left point that was blockered away by Cannata, but the rebound was left out for Vermin to sweep in. Joey Mormina picked up his first point of the season with the secondary assist.
The Comets retaliated less than two minutes later. Mike Zalewski carried the puck across the blue line and ripped a shot from the top of the left circle. Andrey Pedan and Taylor Fedun earned points on the play.
Matthew Peca took back the lead for the Crunch while on the power play just 1:01 into the final frame. He skated in from the end boards, passed through traffic and let off a wrist shot from the slot. Vermin earned his second point of the night with primary assist, while Anthony DeAngelo was credited with the secondary helper.
The Crunch are back in action on Wednesday when they host the Portland Pirates at the War Memorial Arena at 7 p.m.
Syracuse Crunch single game and season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased either in person at the Crunch Box Office located in the War Memorial on 800 South State Street in Syracuse or by calling the office at 315-473-4444.
