Springfield Falcons News Release
Binghamton, NY - The Falcons fired off three power play goals in the third period to comeback against the Binghamton Senators and win 4-3 on Saturday night.
Halfway through the first period, Binghamton kick-started the scoring with Max McCormick scoring his third of the season on a wrist shot in the slot. David Dziurzynski and Zack Stortini assisted on the goal. Just 1:23 later, Greg Carey responded by scoring his fifth of the season to tie the game at one. Carey moved the puck between the legs of Patrick Mullen to get to the slot and backhanded the puck past goaltender Chris Driedger. Dustin Jeffrey and Derek Smith assisted on the goal. The score remained tied at one moving into the second period.
The Senators regained their lead 2:42 into the second period with a shorthanded goal from McCormick. Dziurzynski and Driedger assisted on the period's lone goal. The Senators outshot the Falcons 12-10 in the period and took a 2-1 lead into the final frame.
The third period started off with a Cole Schneider goal just 29 seconds in to give the Senators a 3-1 lead. The goal was assisted by Colin Greening and Mullen. Carey responded once again just 2:20 after the Senators goal to bring the score to a 3-2 Binghamton lead. The power play goal was assisted Jeffrey and Craig Cunningham. The Falcons were awarded another power play and converted 56 seconds after the Carey goal. This time, it was Jordan Szwarz with a one-timer from Smith and Alex Grant for his second of the season. The 3-3 tie would hold until halfway through the period when Cunningham scored the game-winner on a wrist shot off the cross bar and into the net. His fifth of the year was assisted by Smith to complete a three-point night for the defenseman. The goal was also scored on the power play to finish the game 3-6 with the man advantage. The Falcons also killed all three penalties.
Nicklas Treutle improved to 2-1-0 with 30 saves in the game. Chris Driedger moved to 4-4-0 with 30 stops.
The Falcons return home tomorrow to face the Albany Devils at the MassMutual Center for a 5 p.m. start. Following the game, all fans are invited to participate in a free post-game skate and will receive a coupon to Friendly's.
