Syracuse Crunch Launch Second-Annual Change for Change Campaign
November 14, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch have launched their second-annual Change for Change campaign presented by Upstate University Hospital.
Change for Change is an initiative created by Crunch captain Mike Angelidis and his teammates that aims to raise money for pediatric cancer research at Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital and help improve the odds for children with cancer. It was inspired by a boy named Griffin Engle. The fundraising initiative raised over $6,000 in its inaugural campaign during the 2014-15 season.
Each year in the United States, more than 13,000 children under the age of 19 are diagnosed with cancer. It's the fight of a lifetime, but it certainly is not one that they'll face on their own.
Angelidis helped launch the 2015-16 Change for Change campaign in a letter to the Syracuse community. Each Change for Change campaign honors a child who has battled or is battling pediatric cancer. The season's campaign will honor Sophie Kanejsza, who lost her battle in 2012, just before her ninth birthday.
During the 2015-16 season, fans are encouraged to help the team collect spare change for the Change for Change campaign. Fans may purchase Change for Change mason jars at the Crunch office and merchandise stands to collect their spare change. Once full, fans may return the mason jars to the Crunch anytime during the season and have their jars signed by the team. Change for Change jars will also be set up at Guest Services during all Crunch home games for fans to donate their spare change.
Throughout the 2015-16 season, the Crunch will hold fundraising events in the community, including collecting donations on street corners and at select Dunkin' Donuts locations.
In addition to collecting change, the Crunch are encouraging all members of the Syracuse community to become involved by donating to the Change for Change presented by Upstate University Hospital GoFundMe page at syrcrun.ch/Change2015-16.
With the Change for Change campaign, the Crunch are helping give children the best chance to beat their cancer. It may sound like a big goal, but it all starts with just a little change.
