November 14, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release
ST. JOHN'S, NL - It was a record-setting night Saturday as the St. John's IceCaps fell 9-8 to the Toronto Marlies in overtime, in front of a second straight sold out crowd at Mile One Centre.
After the IceCaps scored five second period goals to go up 6-4 heading into the third - and another two in the first 47 seconds of the final frame - the Marlies stormed back with four unanswered before William Nylander sealed it just 1:15 into overtime.
Michael McCarron notched five points (2G, 3A) while Morgan Ellis and Charles Hudon each picked up two goals and an assist. Seven IceCaps registered multi-point games, including Bud Holloway (1G, 2A), Christian Thomas (1G, 1A), Sven Andrighetto (2A) and Mark Barberio (2A).
The 17 goals combined set a new franchise record and tied an AHL record for highest-scoring regulation tie. It also tied for second highest scoring game in the league since 1998.
Despite the loss, the IceCaps remain unbeaten in regulation at home in 2015-16 (5-0-2-1).
The IceCaps host the Syracuse Crunch next Friday and Saturday to wrap up their four-game home stand. Tickets are available at the Mile One box office at online at www.mileonecentre.com.
