HERSHEY, Pa. (Nov. 14, 2015) - Christopher Gibson made 27 saves for his second shutout in a week as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers blanked the Hershey Bears 5-0 on Saturday night at Giant Center.
The win increases the Sound Tigers' winning streak to four, with three of those wins coming via the shutout.
The Sound Tigers took no time at all to get on the board, as the first shot of the game found the back of the net. After a Bears defenseman pinched in the offensive zone, Bracken Kearns skated out in a 2-on-1 with Sebastian Collberg. Kearns used Collberg as a decoy, firing his team-leading 10th goal of the season over the glove of Peters just 31 seconds in to make it 1-0.
Bridgeport gave Hershey plenty of chances to get the tying goal, with three straight penalties in the opening nine minutes. However, the Sound Tigers penalty kill was outstanding, killing all three penalties with ease, not allowing a shot in the final two power plays for the Bears.
Matt Finn extended the Sound Tigers lead late in the opening frame. After a Bridgeport power play expired, Holmstrom found Finn with a neat drop pass right inside the Hershey zone. Finn went five hole on Peters, notching his first goal as a Sound Tiger to make it 2-0 Bridgeport.
Despite a sizable shot advantage for Hershey in the second period, the Sound Tigers got both goals in the middle frame. Both came while 4-on-4 on breakaways, as first Ryan Strome found Alan Quine with a wonderful stretch pass. Quine went backhand-forehand and slipped home his seventh goal of the season to give Bridgeport a 3-0 lead.
Just 43 seconds later, two Bears collided in the offensive zone to give Sound Tigers defenseman Ryan Pulock a breakaway. Pulock skated in and went forehand-backhand over the blocker of Peters to make it 4-0. Pulock's fourth of the season chased Peters, as he was replaced by Dan Ellis for the rest of the game.
Hershey kept getting chances to find the back of the net, getting six power plays in total, but the Sound Tigers killed them all. Neither team scored on the power play, with Bridgeport going 0-for-3.
Kevin Czuczman closed out the scoring with a marker at the 13:17 mark of the third period. Czuczman was named the game's second star with a goal and an assist.
The Sound Tigers improve to 12-4-0-0 to continue the best start in team history. Joe Whitney notched a pair of assists to become the first player this season to reach 20 points on the year.
The Sound Tigers will continue a road swing when they battle the Rochester Americans on Friday, November 20 at 7:05 p.m.
