Rights to Souza Shipped to Reading

Fresno, Calif. – The Fresno Falcons traded the rights to forward Mike Souza to the Reading Royals yesterday. Souza's rights serve as the "future considerations" portion of an opening day trade that saw Fresno receive defenseman Dominic Periard from Reading.

The Falcons acquired the rights to Souza from the Florence Pride on Feb. 23 in exchange for winger Riku Rahikainen. Souza has been playing with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League since he became the property of Fresno.

Periard totaled nine points (3g-6a) and 64 penalty minutes and provided a physical presence on the Falcons' blueline before spending the past 30 games on injured reserve due to a hand injury.

Fresno next takes to the ice trying keep alive a two-game winning streak on Friday and Saturday, March 12 and 13, when they battle the Pacific Division-leading San Diego Gulls at the San Diego Sports Arena. Friday's game can be heard live on KAAT 103.1 FM at 7:20 p.m. beginning with the Shop & Go Pre-game Show followed by Saturday's broadcast, which gets underway at 6:50 p.m.

The Falcons return home on St. Patrick's Day when they will be wearing St. Patty's Day specialty jerseys during their game against the Long Beach Ice Dogs at 7 p.m. at Save Mart Center. Following the game the club will auction off the game-worn sweaters in the Bulldog Foundation Room at Save Mart Center with all of the proceeds benefiting the United Way.
