
All-Star Left Wing Rowe Called Up to St. John's (AHL) for the Second Time

Peoria, Ill. (March 11, 2004) â Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that All-Star left wing Randy Rowe has been called up to the American Hockey League's (AHL) St. John's Maple Leafs â the primary affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs â for the second time this season.
Rowe â a 6-foot-, 198-pound native of Burford, Ontario â will join the Maple Leafs for road games against the Toronto Roadrunners (Friday), the Syracuse Crunch (Saturday) and the Rochester Americans (Sunday). In his first stint with the Maple Leafs, from January 27 to February 19, the 23-year-old third-year professional tallied three points (1g, 2a) in seven games with a +1 plus/minus, playing predominantly with Kyle Wellwood â his linemate from the Major Junior "A" Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Rowe posted his best Major Junior "A" season in 2000-2001 on a line with Wellwood and NHLer Branko Radivojevic, registering an OHL-leading 64 goals and 102 points (4th in the OHL).
Rowe departs the Rivermen in with the team lead in goals (30), power play goals (8), game-winning goals (8) and points (56). As Eastern Conference captain, Rowe earned 2004 Par-A-Dice ECHL All-Star MVP honors with three points (2g, 1a), including the game winner, in a 7-6 win on January 21 in Peoria.
The Rivermen open seven straight on the road against the archrival Toledo Storm on Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13. Game times are 6:30 p.m. CT at the Toledo Sports Arena. The road trip continues on Sunday, March 14 against the first place and Brabham Cup Championship-leading Wheeling Nailers, who have won 11 in a row. Game time is 1:00 p.m. CT at WesBanco Arena. The Rivermen are a member of the ECHL, America's Premier "AA" Hockey League.
