Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads, the Boise Police Department and the Fire Department announced today they will compete in the 3rd Annual Guns & Hoses hockey game for charity at the Bank of America Centre, immediately following the Steelheads game on Saturday, March 13th.
The game will match the Boise Police, coached by Steelheads Blair Allison and Darrell Hay, against the Firefighters, coached by Steelheads Scott Burt and Ben Keup. In addition, local television personalities Mark Johnson from KTVB will play with the police team and Scott Dorval from KIVI will join in the action to compete with the firefighters. Britt Talbert, voice of the Steelheads, will emcee the game.
Johnson, who emceed the game last year said, "People who watch these games say the level of intensity makes up for the level of talent. These two entities are close off the ice, but are huge rivals on the ice."
Boise Police Chief Jim Tibbs added, "It's fun and for some great causes, but is there a rivalry? You Bet! I expect to see officers and fire crews go after a win in a game that will be scrappy and a lot of fun to watch."
This year's game represents the rubber match, with the teams are tied at one game apiece. Both policeman and the firefighters have admitted they have a lot riding on this year's game, namely bragging rights. The police won 9-2 in the inaugural game in 2001-02, and the firefighters won 6-4 last year.
Proceeds from the game will be donated to the teams' charities of choice: police will be playing for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and the firefighters for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
A ticket purchase, $14.00 for adults and $12.00 for youth/seniors, is good for entry to both the Guns & Hoses Game as well as the Idaho Steelheads game against the Long Beach Ice Dogs. $3.00 from every ticket sold will be donated to the charities. Tickets may be purchased through the Steelheads office by calling (208) 472-2125. Entry to the Guns & Hoses game only is free with the request of a donation at the door.
