
Obara To Play For Japanese National Team in IIHF Worlds

The Augusta Lynx announced today that forward Daisuke Obara will return home to compete for the Japanese National Team in the upcoming International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships, to be held April 24 â May 5 in the Czech Republic.
Obara, 22, has played for the Japanese National Team on several occasions, including the World Junior Championships (B and C Pools), the Asia Oceania Junior Championship, Asia Winter Games, Nagano Olympic Memorial Cup, and the World Championships. In 34 total games of international experience, Obara has 29 goals and 29 assists for 58 points.
The Hokkaido, Japan native will play with former Charlotte teammate Kengo Ito, as well as former ECHLers Takahito Suzuki and Yutaka Fukufuji. Obara, Ito, and Suzuki previously played for Team Japan in the 2003 World Championships as well.
"This is a great opportunity for Daisuke," said Stan Drulia, Lynx Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations. "For him to be able to play on a worldwide stage is fantastic. It's great for him, for the league, and for hockey in general. This guy gives you everything he has every time out, and we're glad to see he's being rewarded for his hard work."
The Lynx are back in action this weekend with a pair of home games Saturday against Florence at 7:35 pm and Sunday at 4:05 pm against the Pensacola Ice Pilots. Saturday will feature the Shoe Carnival Ice Wheel, with one lucky fan having a shot at winning $5,000 or other great prizes.
