TONIGHT: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and Altoona Curve will meet in the opener of a three-game series...The Flying Squirrels and New Britain Rock Cats split a doubleheader with New Britain claiming game one 2-1 and Richmond taking game two 7-4 in 10 innings on Thursday afternoon in front 6,752 fans at New Britain Stadium.

TONIGHT'S STARTERS: Right-hander David Mixon gets the start in the series-opener for the Flying Squirrels...Making his first start of the 2011 season...Is 2-1 with a 2.31 ERA in six career appearances, including five starts, against Altoona...Has not allowed more than two runs in any outing against the Curve...Made his first appearance with Richmond in relief 5/2 at New Britain...Worked a scoreless inning, allowing one hit...Sent down from Triple-A Fresno 5/2...Began the 2011 season with Fresno and went 0-0 with a 8.53 ERA in seven appearances, all in relief...Allowed at least one run in five of his seven outings including six runs in 1 1/3 innings in his last game with Fresno 4/23 against Reno...Opponents hit .340 (18-for-53) against him...Spent the entire 2010 season with Richmond...First season as a full-time starter...Had made only three starts in his first 81 career appearances, throwing 121 total innings...Went 11-7 with a 3.50 ERA in 27 games, 25 starts...Struck out 122 batters and walked 38 in 156 2/3 innings...Went 10-7 with a 3.67 ERA in his 25 starts...Tossed seven scoreless innings in two relief appearances, going 1-0... WORKING OVERTIME: The Flying Squirrels played their Eastern League-leading sixth extra-inning affair in game two of yesterday's doubleheader with the New Britain Rock Cats...Richmond improved to 3-3 in extra frames with the 7-4, 10-inning win...Six of the club's last 16 games overall have gone into extra innings including an 18-inning, five-hour and 27-minute marathon 4/30 at Bowie.

NO SHOW ON THE ROAD: The Flying Squirrels completed their most recent seven-game road trip batting just .195 (49-for-251), averaging 3.71 runs per game (26R/7G)...The club hit .199 (39-for-196) as a team on its six-game, seven-day, trip through Altoona and Trenton 4/14-4/20 and scored just 12 total runs (2R/G)...Overall on the road, the Flying Squirrels are batting .197 (88-for-447) and are averaging 2.92 runs per game (38R/13G) in 13 contests...Richmond is batting .242 (115-for-476) in 14 games at The Diamond while averaging 4.21 runs per game at home (59R/14G).

LAW OF AVERAGES: The Flying Squirrels are batting .220 as a team through 27 games, the lowest team batting average in the Eastern League...It is the second-lowest team batting average in all of MiLB, just ahead of the Syracuse Chiefs, Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, who have a .219 team batting average...The San Diego Padres have the lowest batting average in professional baseball, hitting .218 as a team...Six of Richmond's 11 position players are batting under .220 including three (Johnny Monell, Roger Kieschnick, and Aaron Lowenstein) who are batting under .200.

PITCHING IN: The Flying Squirrels pitching staff leads the Eastern League with a 2.96 ERA through 27 games...The club leads the league in staff ERA even though it has issued the most walks (92) and has allowed the more hits (240) than of any team in the circuit...Richmond ranks third in the league with 224 strikeouts, and the pitching staff has logged a league-high 252 innings of work, 14 2/3 more innings than the Trenton Thunder who ranks second in innings pitched.

NOOONAN: Shortstop Nick Noonan went 3-for-7 with a double, two home runs, four RBIs and two runs scored in yesterday's doubleheader at New Britain...It was the first time in the two-year history of the franchise that a batter homered in each game of a doubleheader...It was just the second time that Noonan has homered in back-to-back games in five pro seasons...The 22-year-old also homered in consecutive games 5/2-5/3/10, the second of which was an inside-the-park home run against the Curve...No Richmond batter has homered in three straight games in franchise history...Noonan has hits in 13 of the 14 games he has appeared in with the Flying Squirrels since joining the club from Extended Spring Training 4/21.

BOOK 'EM DAN-O: Right-hander Dan Otero has tossed 10 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings over his last six appearances, the longest scoreless streak of the season for a Flying Squirrels pitcher...The 26-year-old has struck out 13 batters and walked none while holding opponents to a .225 (9-for-40) average against over the course of the streak.
