New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
(Manchester, NH)-Adeiny Hechavarria singled in one run and broke a 3-3 tie with a sacrifice fly and Darin Mastroianni hit his first home run of the season as the Fisher Cats rallied for a fifth straight win, 7-3 over Binghamton Friday night.
Trailing the Mets 3-2 going to the bottom of the eighth inning, New Hampshire batted around. Mike McDade reached on an infield single to start the inning and John Tolisano walked. The runners moved up on a wild pitch, so the Mets intentionally walked Yan Gomes. Callix Crabbe (2-for-4, R, RBI) singled home McDade to tie the score, Hechavarria's sacrifice fly scored Tolisano and Anthony Gose tripled to make it 6-3. Mastroianni drove in his second run with a single, scoring Gose.
Binghamton (9-15) did not have a hit through the first five innings, but broke through in the top of the sixth against Fisher Cats starter Joel Carreno. Jean Luc Blaquiere walked and Jordany Valdespin doubled into the right field corner. Mike Fisher followed with an identical two-bagger, scoring Blaquiere and Valdespin to make it 2-0. Fisher took third on a fly out and scored on a wild pitch.
The Fisher Cats (16-9) scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Mastroianni's home run to left-center made it 3-1. And in the seventh, Tolisano doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Hechavarria to pull New Hampshire within a run.
Joel Carreno started for the Fisher Cats. He worked 5.1 IP, allowing just two hits and three runs. He walked five and struck out a season-high eight batters. Ron Uviedo, Mike Hinckley, Bobby Korecky and Matt Daly combined to toss 3.2 scoreless innings in relief. Korecky (1-0) earned the win.
Binghamton starter Mark Cohoon allowed two runs in 6.2 innings, allowing six hits, walking one and striking out six. Eric Niesen (0-3) took the loss.
The Fisher Cats and Mets play again on Saturday afternoon at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. RHP Zach Stewart (2-1, 2.64) is the scheduled starter for New Hampshire against Binghamton right-hander Brad Holt (1-1, 2.96). Game time is 1:35pm and the first 1,500 fans will receive an Ollie The Bat Dog Bobblehead. Fans can also play USA Subs Baseball Bingo. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
