Overbeck Named April Player of the Month

Portland, ME The Eastern League is pleased to announce that Reading Phillies first baseman Cody Overbeck has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of April. Cody returned to Reading for the 2011 season after he hit .255 with 13 home runs, 48 runs scored and 41 RBI in 78 games while finishing the 2010 season with the R-Phils. The 24-year old nearly matched his production from the second half of last season during the month of April this year, batting .321 with four doubles, six homers, 20 RBI, 15 runs scored, five walks, one stolen base, a .593 slugging percentage and a .352 on-base percentage in 22 games. Overbeck, who is a native of Atoka, Tennessee, reached base in 16 of the 22 games he played in during the month and drove in or scored at least one run in 14 games. His most impressive performance during the first month of the season came on April 11th when he went 5-for-5 with one double, one home run, three RBI and two runs scored to lead the R-Phils to a 13-1 victory at New Hampshire.

Overbeck proved his performance in April was no fluke as he kicked off the month of May by hitting a pair of home runs in a 3-2 win against Portland at FirstEnergy Stadium on May 1st. The 6'1", 200 lb. slugger currently has a league-high eight home runs this season. He also leads the league in slugging percentage (.600) and total bases (57) and is currently among the league leaders in RBI (22-tied 1st), OPS (.946-5th) and runs scored (17-tied 6th).

Cody, who took home the Eastern League Player of the Week Award for the period of April 7th-17th, was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the ninth round of the 2008 draft after hitting .356 with 17 home runs during his junior season at the University of Mississippi.
