Ricardo Sanchez, IronPigs leave Rochester with series win

(Rochester, NY) - Ricardo Sanchez (1-1) earned his first win for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (23-18) by allowing just one run in seven innings in a 4-2 win over the Rochester Red Wings (26-16).

The Red Wings scored a run against Sanchez in the bottom of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. Donovan Casey scored on a ground ball double play hit by Cole Freeman. Lehigh Valley tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning against Cade Cavalli. Scott Kingery hit a sacrifice fly that scored Nick Maton.

Lehigh Valley opened things up in the top of the eighth inning as they scored three runs against Reed Garrett (3-2) to take a 4-1 lead. Matt Vierling scored on a wild pitch then Darick Hall hit an RBI single that scored Austin Wynns. Yairo Munoz added an RBI single that scored Hall. Rochester scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning against Mark Appel as Adrian Sanchez scored on a groundout. The run against Appel was unearned.

Jonathan Hennigan and Nick Duron each pitched 2/3's of an inning in relief. Duron earned his first save of the season.

The IronPigs return home to Coca-Cola Park to begin a six-game series against the Worcester Red Sox starting on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
