Knights Fall to Tides 14-3 on Sunday

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Left fielder Mark Payton launched his fifth home run of the season, but the Charlotte Knights dropped the finale of the six-game series to the Norfolk Tides by a score of 14-3 at Truist Field on Sunday afternoon. The loss was Charlotte's fifth in the six-game series.

Payton continued his hot hitting as he extended his season-long hit streak to 12 consecutive games with a solo home run in the eighth inning. It was the team's third and final run of the game.

The Knights scored the team's first two runs in the third inning of Sunday's game. Shortstop Danny Mendick singled home second baseman Laz Rivera for the team's first run of the day. Mendick later scored the team's second and final run of the afternoon on a wild pitch.

Norfolk pound out 14 runs on 15 hits in Sunday's game, including six home runs overall. Center fielder Kyle Stowers launched three of the six home runs. He finished the game 3-for-4 with four runs scored, three home runs and five RBIs. Robert Neustrom, who also homered, had a four-hit day.

RHP Davis Martin (2-1, 4.80) was saddled with the loss. He allowed six runs on five hits over three innings.

The Knights will have an off day on Monday before opening a series against the Durham Bulls from Durham, NC starting on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. The game can be heard live on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
