Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled right-handed pitcher Stephen Fife from Triple-A Albuquerque today and the RHP Anthony Ortega joins the Isotopes today after being signed as a free agent.

Fife made his Major League debut with the Dodgers on July 17, 2012 against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Boise native started five games for Los Angeles last year posting a 2.70 ERA (8 ER/26.2 IP) and suffered two losses. His last start with the club came on September 22. In three starts with Albuquerque this season, Fife posted a 1-1 record with a 4.61 ERA (7 ER/13.2 IP). Fife is scheduled to start today's Dodgers game against the Baltimore Orioles.

Ortega did not play in 2012 after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He signed a minor league contract with the Kansas City Royal in November, 2012 before being released earlier this month. Ortega's last pitching appearance came in a start for the Triple-A Salt Lake Bess on September 2, 2011. He compiled a 1-3 record with an 8.23 ERA (32 ER/35.0 IP) in 20 appearances (three starts) in the 2011 season. The Venezuelan native started three games at the Major League level with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2009. The righty went 0-2 with a 9.24 ERA (13 ER/12.2 IP).

Oretega will wear number 49 for the Isotopes, but will wear 37 today as part of a special tribute to the Negro League at Isotopes Park.

Albuquerque continues its four-game homestand against division opponent Oklahoma City today at 1:35 PM with RHP Red Patterson facing off against RHP Ross Seaton.
