Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Nashville, TN - David Lough had his third straight three-hit game and Chris Dwyer tossed 6 2/3 strong innings to lead Omaha past Nashville, 8-3, Sunday afternoon in the second of four meetings at Greer Stadium. The Storm Chasers bounced back from a loss in the series opener to improve to 10-7 and remain a half-game behind Memphis in the American Conference Northern Division.
The Chasers struck for a pair of runs in the second inning against Tyler Thornburg, a top Milwaukee Brewers pitching prospect. Irving Falu, mired in a 4-for-42 slump, delivered an RBI hit to plate Brett Hayes and Lough came through with a two-out single that scored Chad Tracy. The visitors manufactured another marker in the third when Anthony Seratelli walked with two outs, stole second and scored on a base hit by Hayes, who at that point was 4-for-4 with 6 RBI against the Sounds right-hander. Tracy followed with a double that plated Hayes to give Omaha back-to-back two-run frames and the PCL's top run-producer over the last two years his first run driven in this season.
Omaha scored for a third straight inning with two outs when Lough launched his first home run, a solo shot, to make it 5-0 and hits in 8 out of his last 12 at-bats. Thornburg suffered his second loss to the Chasers in a week after being charged with those five runs over five frames, during which he allowed nine hits, walked two and struck out three.
Dwyer kept the hosts blanked through six innings before they finally broke through against him in the seventh. Caleb Gindl doubled home a run with two away to get the Sounds on the board and spell the end of the day for the southpaw, who beat Nashville for a second time in six days after yielding five hits, walking three and striking out a pair.
Lough, Christian Colon and Johnny Giavotella supplied successive run-scoring hits in the eighth to break the game open and help the Chasers post a season-best 15 safeties. Louis Coleman recorded the last out in the seventh and tossed a scoreless eighth before giving way to Dan Wheeler, who surrendered two-out RBI hits to Gindl and Anderson De La Rosa in the ninth before getting the final out.
The series continues Monday night with Omaha's starter still to be determined while Nashville will send southpaw and Omaha native Zach Kroenke to the hill. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone 2, The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
