Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers used a season-high 21 hits, including four home runs, to sink the Salt Lake Bees 13-4 in the series opener at Spring Mobile Ballpark on Saturday night.
The Rainiers rolled to a commanding 8-1 lead through the game's first two innings. Alex Liddi's two-run double and Mike Zunino's three-run home run keyed a five-run frame in the first. Solo homers from Denny Alomnte, Nate Tenbrink and Eric Thames filled out a three-run inning in the second.
Tacoma's lineup boasted eight players with multi-hit efforts. Tenbrink led the club after going 4-for-5 with a double, home run, three RBI and three runs scored. Almonte and infielder Leury Bonilla each notched three hits, with Almonte coming one single shy of hitting for the cycle.
Thames ended the night going 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. He has now homered in four out of his last five games and is the only player in the Pacific Coast League to reach base safely in each of his team's first 17 games this season.
Mike Zunino collected a pair of hits and upped his season total to 21 RBI after driving in three runs.
Right-hander Andrew Carraway (2-1) won his second consecutive decision in his fourth start this season. Carraway limited the Bees to two runs on seven hits and walked two with six strikeouts over 6.0 innings.
The Rainiers (9-8) look to stretch their win streak to three games when they play the second game of the club's four-game series at Salt Lake tomorrow, April 21. Right-hander Jeremy Bonderman (0-1, 5.28) is slated to start for Tacoma against right-hander Billy Buckner (2-0, 2.55) for the Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m.
