Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Isotopes (8-8) dropped a tight contest to the Oklahoma City RedHawks (9-7) 3-1 on Saturday night. Runs were at a premium as the four run total is the fewest allowed at Isotopes Park in 2013.

Albuquerque starting pitcher Sean White (0-2, 4.50) and Oklahoma City RHP Jarred Cosart (2-0, 1.02) were locked in a pitcher's duel through the early innings. Neither pitcher conceded a run through the first three innings.

The right-handed White tossed five innings in his outing suffering the loss. He allowed two runs on five hits while striking out two hitters and walking three. LHP Kelvin De La Cruz fired two perfect innings of relief making his Triple-A debut. The southpaw struck out two hitters. RHP Steve Ames and RHP Chris Withrow combined for two innings of one-run baseball, none earned, on four hits.

Cosart earned the win allowing one run on three hits over five innings of work and exited the game with a 2-1 advantage. He also struck out six and did not give up a walk. RHP Jose Valdez earned his fourth save of the season pitching a perfect ninth frame, striking out two batters.

The RedHawks cracked the scoreboard first in its half of the fourth inning. DH Trevor Crowe (1-for-3) led off with a walk in front of 1B Marc Krauss (1-for-4). Kraus legged out his first triple of the season scoring Crowe on the play. Krauss came across home on a sacrifice fly by RF Jimmy Paredes (0-for-3) giving Oklahoma City a 2-0 lead.

2B Elian Herrera (1-for-4) promptly doubled to lead off the bottom of the fourth. RF Alex Castellanos (1-for-4) drove Herrera in on a single to center field cutting the RedHawk lead to 2-1, but that was all the Topes could muster on offense.

RedHawk catcher Cody Clark (1-for-4) lead of the top of the eighth inning with a double and advanced to third on CF Robbie Grossman's (2-for-3) bunt single. Clark came in to score on a 3B Rusty Ryal fielding error extending the RedHawk lead to 3-1.

The Isotopes and RedHawks do it again tomorrow Sunday, April 21 at 1:35 PM in game two of the four-game series. RHP Stephen Fife (1-1, 4.61) is slated to make the start for Albuquerque against Oklahoma City righty Ross Seaton (0-1, 9.00).
