Tucson Padres News Release
The Fresno Grizzlies loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but Padres reliever Brad Boxberger struck out Carter Jurica and got pinch-hitter Juan Ciriaco to fly out to close out a 5-4 win for Tucson Saturday at Chukchansi Park. The Padres have now won four games in a row.
Travis Buck brought home the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to left in the top of the first. Daniel Robertson scored the Padres second run of the inning when he came home on a throwing error by catcher Johnny Monell. Roger Kieschnick's opposite field home run in the third plated the Grizzlies first run. Tucson answered with two runs in the top of the fourth on an RBI double from Dean Anna and Jason Hagerty's RBI groundout.
After scoring one run in the bottom of fourth, Fresno cut the Padres lead to one in the sixth with Jurica's RBI single up the middle. Buck's second sacrifice fly of the game extended Tucson's lead to 5-3 in the seventh. The Grizzlies brought home one run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly and could have scored more, but Daniel Robertson's diving catch in center prevented a lead change.
Tucson reliever Jorge Reyes improved to 2-0 on the season, while Boxberger converted his second save. Chris Heston was charged with the loss after going six innings and allowing three earned runs.
