Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

Colorado Springs Sky Sox (10-7) outfielder Tyler Colvin singled home Charlie Blackmon and Nolan Arenado to give the Sky Sox (10-8) their fourth walk-off win of the season and the 8-7 win over the Las Vegas 51s on 50-Cent Hot Dog Day at Security Service Field.

For the second straight game the Sky Sox fell behind early. On the second pitch of the day, leadoff hitter Juan Lagares hit his third home run of the year to give the 51s the 1-0 lead.

In the third inning Tim Wheeler and DJ LeMahieu hit back-back singles to put runners on first and second with one out. Charlie Blackmon and Nolan Arenado singled off of starter Collin McHugh to take the lead. After two runs had come in, Ryan Wheeler hit the team's fifth straight single to increase their lead to 3-1.

Sky Sox starting pitcher Christian Friedrich, who turned in his longest outing of the year with 4.2 innings pitched, gave up a run in the fourth and the fifth innings to tie the game at three. The 51s broke the tie in the sixth when Zach Lutz began the inning with a single and was then driven in by a Jamie Hoffmann double to center field. After giving up the RBI double, new acquisition Chris Volstad retired the next three batters to end the inning.

Trailing 3-4, catcher Matt McBride, who was recently activated from the disabled list, hit a leadoff double. He then advanced to third on a wild pitch by McHugh. Charlie Culberson subsequently flied out, but Corey Dickerson came on to pinch-hit and had a RBI single to tie up the game and extend his hit-streak to 15.

Two batters later, DJ LeMahieu continued the scoring with a line drive single to Lagares. On that play Tim Wheeler advanced to third base on an error and crossed home two batters later when Nolan Arenado hit a sacrifice fly for his second RBI of the game.

Colorado Springs' lead was short lived however as Las Vegas scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 7-6 lead. The 51s' runs scored on singles by Flores and Hoffmann.

The score remained that way until the bottom of the ninth when outfielder Charlie Blackmon began the inning with a single. Arenado then hit smacked his third single of the game to send Blackmon to second. After the two straight singles the 51s brought on lefty Sean Henn who walked Ryan Wheeler to load the bases. With runners on each base Tyler Colvin hit the team's 18th single of the contest to bring home two runs and earn the team's 10th win of the year.

The Sky Sox will aim to take the series lead tomorrow when RH Tyler Chatwood (1-0, 1.84) faces off against former Sky Sox pitcher RH Carlos Torres(0-1, 5.19) at 6:35 MT.

Sky Sox Notes: Ryan Wheeler, Tyler Colvin and Corey Dickerson each extended their hit streaks today. Wheeler has now had a hit in six straight games, Colvin extends his streak to nine, and Dickerson has now hit safely in 15 games... Dickerson's hit-streak sets a new Sky Sox record for the longest hit-streak by to begin a season and to begin his Sky Sox career... Eighteen of the Sky Sox' 20 hits today were singles which tied the team's record for singles in a game. The feat happened three other times, most recently on July 31st, 2001 against Edmonton at Sky Sox Stadium.Third baseman Nolan Arenado had ten assists in the game which fell one short of the PCL record for assists in a game by a third baseman.
