Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
The Cedar Rapids Kernels announced several roster moves, effective June 22nd. Pitchers Rafael Cruz and Brok Butcher have been reassigned. Cruz will leave Cedar Rapids and join Rancho Cucamonga. Butcher was activated from the DL and then reassigned to Tempe of the Arizona League.
Two players will join the Kernels in Fort Wayne. Pitcher Daniel Hawkins rejoins the team from Rancho Cucamonga and INF Josh Davies comes to the Kernels from Extended Spring Training in Tempe AZ.
Brok, who joined the Kernels on April 10th, has been on the DL since May 26th with a pinched nerve. He appeared in nine games for the Kernels, all in relief, going 1-0 with a 5.17 ERA. In 15.2 innings he allowed 21 hits, 10 runs (9 earned), struck out six and walked four.
Rafael joined the Kernels on April 30th and appeared in 12 games for the Kernels, all in relief. He had no record and pitched 21.1 innings allowing 22 hits, six runs (four earned), struck out five and walked two.
At Rancho Cucamonga, Hawkins appeared in 19 games in relief for the Quakes with a 1-1 record and an 8.38 ERA. In 29 innings, he's allowed 45 hits and 31 runs (29 earned), while walking 17 and striking out 10. Hawkins was assigned to the Quakes from Cedar Rapids on April 22nd.
Josh Davies was signed by the Angels as a non-drafted free agent on January 21, 2003 and hails from Strathfieldsaye, Australia. He spent 2005 with the AZL Angels, batting .293 with 2 HR and 23 RBI in 44 games.
Davies and Hawkins are expected to be in uniform when the Kernels take on the Wizards in Fort Wayne tonight at 6:00 pm.
The move leave the Kernels roster at the MWL maximum of 25 players.
