Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Jaime Garcia has been promoted to the Palm Beach Cardinals of the Florida State League, the St. Louis Cardinals announced Thursday. One day after being named a participant in the 2006 XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game, the 19-year-old's debut season continues to move in the right direction.
Garcia, a native of Reynosa, Mexico, was selected in the 22nd round of the 2005 draft, but an arm injury delayed his professional debut until 2006. The southpaw has gone 5-4 with a 2.90 ERA in 13 starts to anchor the Swing of the Quad Cities pitching rotation, racking up 80 strikeouts in 77.2 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .229 batting average.
Garcia blazed through the month of April with a 2-1 record and a 2.52 ERA, named the Cardinals' Pitcher of the Month in his first exposure to minor league baseball. He was selected to the Midwest League All-Star Team by a vote of manager's around the league, and has also been tabbed to participate in the 2006 XM Satellite All-Star Futures Games as part of Major League Baseball's All-Star festivities on July 9.
The Swing of the Quad Cities roster currently stands at 24 active players, one less than the maximum allowed by the Midwest League. An updated roster accompanies this release.
