New half - same result: Kernels fall in extra innings
June 22, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
At the end of the first half of the MWL season, they wipe out the W-L records and start at 0-0. Here's a record the Kernels wish they could wipe out - they are now 2-11 in extra inning games as they fell to the Wizards in Fort Wayne on Thursday night, 3-2, in twelve innings.
A one out single by Seth Johnston scored Jesus Lopez from third with the winning run in the 12th inning off Kernels reliever Tim Mattison (2-4). The loss can't be pinned entirely on the Kernels' pitching staff as the last Kernels to reach base were Anderson Rosario on a lead off double and Brad Coon with a walk in the 8th inning. The final 15 Kernels to bat were retired in order.
The Kernels only managed seven hits with Larry Infante going 2-5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Brad Coon extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a leadoff single to start the game.
Kernels starter Nick Adenhart pitched 7-1/3 innings, allowing nine hits and two runs (both earned) while striking out four and walking two. Ryan Aldridge and Brad Beck combined for 2-2/3 innings of no-hit relief. Jon Link (3-3) picked up the win for the Wizards.
The Kernels try and get back into the win column on Friday night as Stephen Marek (7-1) takes the hill for the Kernels against Stevie Delabar (5-4). First pitch is scheduled at 6:00 pm and you can listen on 1450 KMRY or on the internet at www.kernels.com.
Cedar Rapids returns home on Thursday, June 29 to open an eight game series with Dayton and Beloit. Tickets are available on line at www.kernels.com, or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at (319) 896-7560.
