Maybin's Future is Now

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - West Michigan Whitecaps center fielder Cameron Maybin has been selected to play in the 2006 Futures Game at PNC Park in Pittsburgh as part of the Major League Baseball All-Star weekend. Maybin is one of 25 players on the United States team, which will take on the 25-man World team Sunday, July 9 at 4 p.m.

Maybin, who was the the Detroit Tigers first pick in the 2005 draft and the tenth pick overall, has had a stellar season for the Whitecaps despite missing 29 games in the first half with an injured finger. He hit .315 in 36 games with 41 hits, 10 doubles, four triples, two home runs, 28 RBIs and nine stolen bases.

Maybin was ranked as the third best prospect in the Tigers organization prior to the 2006 season by Baseball America. The Asheville, North Carolina native is just 19 years old and is playing his first professional season with the Whitecaps.

Former Whitecap and current Toledo Mud Hen Humberto Sanchez was named to the World team roster after compiling a 3-0 record with a 0.47 ERA in three starts with the Tigers AAA affiliate. Sanchez began the season with the AA Erie SeaWolves and was promoted to Toledo in June.
