Renegades Hope to Douse Inferno

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The first of three meetings, two here. Clubs met twice last season and split. The home team won each. Richmond scored a season high seven goals vs. the Inferno here. Columbia made the playoffs as an expansion club last season with 86 points. The ‘Gades are one point behind Charlotte and three back of Greensboro in the Northeast Division. Columbia leads the Southeast with 10 points, two ahead of South Carolina.

LAST ACTION: The ‘Gades lost 4-2 at Charlotte Tuesday. The ‘Gades quickly fell behind 2-0 but twice rallied back to get to within a goal. The ‘Gades gave up two five-on-three power play goals and were 1-9 on the man advantage. Nick Lent and Alex Matieroukine scored for Richmond. The ‘Gades outshot the Checkers 35-32. Columbia crushed Augusta 8-1 at home last night. Justin Morrison scored four goals, including a natural hat trick in the second period. The Inferno blew the game open with five second period goals. Columbus was 4-5 on the power play.

‘GADES NOTES: The ‘Gades released forwards Trevor Gillies and Shawn Mamane this morning. David Brosseau, acquired by the ‘Gades from Dayton this week makes his debut tonight. Jonathan St. Louis, picked up in the Brian Goudie trade from Florida, will join the club tomorrow. Ian Turner remains on IR. The Richmond Renegades play four games in five nights this week, including three games in three nights in three cities over the weekend. Richmond opens a six game road trip tomorrow. The ‘Gades play 10 of their first 13 on the road. Marc Magliarditi earned his 112th career ECHL win last Friday and is now tied for ninth in league history with Mark Bernard. The ‘Gades have scored seven goals in their five losses and six in their one win. The ‘Gades 10 goals in their last four games were scored by nine different players. Richmond has scored the first goal only once in six games. The ‘Gades play six of the seven teams in the Southeast Division this season; they are 0-1 thus far vs. the Southeast. Richmond has been outscored 11-3 in their last five third periods. The Renegades roster now contains eight rookies. Richmond is averaging 29.7 PIM per game, up over 10 minutes from last season.

INFERNO NOTES: Columbia has won four straight. Tonight they play the second of three games in three nights. Morrison is tied for the league lead in goals with six. He is tied fifth in points along with teammate Shawn Wansborough. Rejean Stringer is tied for second in assists. The Inferno leads the league in power play at 30.8%. They are second in penalty killing at 93.9%. They are tied for the league lead in shorthanded goals with three. This is Columbia's first game outside the Southeast Division this season. Columbia is 3-0 in one goal games. The Inferno is tied for third in the league in goals per game (4.7). The Inferno is a Vancouver Canucks affiliate. The Inferno has 10 players back from last season. Columbia is the least penalized club in the ECHL (18 PIM per game).
