LONG BEACH, Calif. – October 25, 2002 – Long Beach Ice Dogs Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach Kevin Kaminski announced today that the Ice Dogs have signed defenseman Mike Kelleher to a one-year deal and placed right wing Zdenek Vanc on the 14-day injured reserve list due to a left knee strain. In addition, the Ice Dogs have activated goaltender Mike Buzak off the injured reserve list.

Kelleher, 29, spent the last two seasons (2000-2002) with Deggendorf EC of the German second league recording 8-19-27 totals with 159 penalty minutes in 87 games. Last season, Kelleher registered 11 points and eight assists with 66 penalty minutes in 44 games.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound defenseman played 45 games for the Fresno Falcons of the West Coast Hockey League, recording 3-11-14 totals with 62 penalty minutes during the 1999-2000 season. The Brookline, Massachusetts native also played in all five playoff games, including when the Falcons were eliminated in the semi-final round of the 2000 WCHL Taylor Cup Playoffs.

The 23-year old Vanc suffered the injury during the Ice Dogs-San Diego Gulls game on October 13 at San Diego Sports Arena. The native of Vlasim, Czech Republic, has not skated since the injury occurred.

Last season, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Buzak led the WCHL with a 2.39 goals against average (GAA). He appeared in 40 games with the Ice Dogs, posting a 23-15-1 record. Buzak's .909 save percentage ranked third among WCHL netminders.

The Ice Dogs host the Gulls Sat., Oct. 26, at the Long Beach Arena at 7 p.m. The Ice Dogs will be wearing brand new, one-of-a-kind jerseys with an old-school look that will be auctioned off following the game. Half of the proceeds will go towards Millers Children's Hospital of Long Beach. In addition, the Ice Dogs will be handing out Spike replica Plush Dogs in place of the scheduled Spike Bobblehead to the first 4,000 fans in attendance. After the game, fans will be able to pick up schedule magnets before leaving the arena.
