Buckley Notches Game Winner in 4-3 Win Over Pee Dee

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (2-3-2) upended the Pee Dee Pride (3-2-1) 4-3 in their first home game of the year in front of 6,761 at TECO Arena on Friday night. Florida forward Tom Buckley notched the game winning goal in the third period and added an assist to lift the Everblades.

The Everblades struck first on a power play one time goal by defenseman Duane Harmer just inside the post at the 11:17 mark of the first period. The Pride then evened the contest at 1-1 on a redirection off the stick of forward Preston Mizzi at 11:42 of the period. Pee Dee then took a 2-1 lead after Mike Glumac snapped a wrist shot over the glove of Florida netminder Rob Zepp. The Everblades then tied the game at two apiece after forward George Awada took a feed from Marty Johnston and one timed the puck past Pee Dee goaltender Matt Underhill.

The Everblades broke open a 2-2 game when Brent McDonald netted a power play goal in the second period at the 3:48 mark of the period. However, the Pride knotted the game at 3-3 on another shot off the stick of forward Preston Mizzi.

In the third period forward Tom Buckley scored the game winning goal to give the Everblades their second win of the season and first against the Pride.

Florida goaltender Rob Zepp (2-1-1) stopped 17 of 20 shots he faced while Pee Dee netminder Matt Underhill (2-1-0) stopped 34 of 38 shots. The Everblades were 2 for 10 on the power play while the Pride were 1 for 3.

Florida takes on the Pee Dee Pride at TECO Arena tomorrow night at 7:30 PM in the second game of the two game series. The first 1,500 kids 13 and under will receive a reflective Halloween bag and there will be a costume contest on the ice during the first intermission.
